Sustainability statement

Sustainability is a primary value for Colmec, which is oriented towards a circular and socially responsible economy, and is in constant dialogue with the stakeholders. More creativity and less consumption is the principle that inspires our work. We combine efficiency and sustainability in the production of our machines, we integrate cultural and technological innovation, we are open to the challenges of the future without forgetting the principles of social and environmental responsibility.

We conserve resources, we reduce consumption, we reuse materials, we recycle waste. We make sustainable products with sustainable technologies, we select the materials and qualify the processes. We improve the working and non-working life of our employees, we contribute to communities and territories, we promote and participate in social and cultural initiatives and projects. We innovate products, processes,
services, we always carry out research and development.

People and communities

1. Health and well-being

Goals:

• Guarantee the safety of the employees
• Activate corporate welfare practices

What we have done:

• ISO 45001 certification for occupational health and safety management system since 2018. Analysis of injuries to identify their causes and implement related corrective actions. Nearmiss monitoring to implement preventive actions
• Drafting of annual training plans for employees
• Renewal of Machine Tool fleet to increase the level of operator safety
• “We are Colmec” project for analysis of the company climate and consequent improvement actions
• Support for employees even beyond the provisions of law 104
• “Flexibility” working hours according to the needs of individual employees
• Part-time activation and leave periods at the request of employees
• Marriage bonus for employees
• Support for employees for the right to study

• Support for a Fiction Contest for local High Schools
• Employee training for health and safety, education and training for using new machinery, English courses, etc.

3. Clean and accessible energy

Goals:

• Reduce energy consumption
• Increase the share of energy from renewable sources

What we have done:

• ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management System since 2018
• Replacement of traditional lamps with LED lamps, both in the production departments and in the offices
• Software installation for automatic lighting adjustment
• Renewal of the Machine Tool fleet to improve energy consumption performance
• Installation of thermal solar panels for hot water production
• Building efficiency measures to reduce heat/cooling dispersion

What we will do:

• Installation of photovoltaic panels in the new extension under construction
• Progressive replacement of the company vehicle fleet with models with a lower environmental impact
• Energy audit evaluation

4. Sustainable cities and communities

Goals:

• Support the local community
• Support international cooperation projects

What we have done:

• Projects to support the Combonian missions in Mozambique and Ecuador (construction of hospital, bakery, school, supply of dialysis machinery, etc)
• Annual donation for the maintenance of projects already developed and for new projects in the Combonian missions in Mozambique and Ecuador
• Support for projects carried out by the Institute for the elderly in the area
• Support for a Fiction Contest for local High Schools
• Support to the Busto Arsizio Circle Hospital during the pandemic
• Collaboration with local Technical and Professional Institutes for School-Work Alternation courses for both administrative and production activities

• Research & Development of machinery and productive processes to improve performance also with a view to sustainability
• Project to measure the level of “circularity” of the company’s production processes, supply chain and products with the Circular Economy CHECK-UP TOOL

What we will do:

• Rationalization and digitization of warehouse management (including procurement) and internal logistics
• Development of customer service through digital systems and dedicated software (also with sustainability advantages in terms of reduction of consumption and waste)
• Continuous Research & Development of machinery and productive processes to improve performance also with a view to sustainability
• Patenting of new machinery with sustainability features
