Since 1973 solutions for the processing of rubber and silicone

Founded in 1973, Colmec, is a world leader in the design and construction of high-tech rubber and silicone extrusion and mixing lines.

The constant research, the attention to the specific needs of the customer, the innovative solutions, the continuous control in the production process are the strengths on which Colmec has built its image and with which it has won the full trust of his customers.

To ensure the highest quality, control over the entire process must be complete. That is why we have chosen the path of integration.

Each company in the Colmec group brings the highest technical knowledge and design skills to achieve flexibility and customization of the products produced. By investing in constant research and improvement, each contributes to common success.

Colmec’s History

From a small extruder manufacturer to a world leader in the production of complete rubber and silicone processing systems. The year was 1958 and Giannino Colombo was a capable and enterprising young man who had a great dream: to realize his organization.

1973

THE BIRTH OF A REALITY

THE BIRTH OF A REALITY

Colmec’s first organization was born in Busto Arsizio in Via Contardo Ferrini in 1973 thanks to Giannino Colombo, a capable and enterprising young man who had the great dream of making his company.

1978

THE SECOND BUILDING

THE SECOND BUILDING

Due to COLMEC’s ever-increasing success in the rubber extruder market, Busto Arsizio’s headquarters had become inadequate to meet the increased customer needs. It was important to ‘move’ to Vanzaghello on Orchid Street, 2 to a larger building.

1985

NEW OVEN SERIES

Colmec produces a new set of salt bath ovens, using diathermic oil as the salt heating source. With this new solution, this system becomes important for significant energy savings in the management of the vulcanization process and especially for the reduction of wash water pollution. The molten salt is recovered from the wash water and automatically reintroduced into the vulcanization oven.

1993

MARKET LAUNCH OF THE FIRST LINES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF RADIATOR HOSES

Colmec launches the first lines for the production of continuous-process radiator hoses on the market. Until then, radiator hose was produced in three distinct phases:

  • first step: sub-layer extrusion
  • second phase: braiding with textile reinforcement
  • phase three: final covering

The continuous-stage solution is increasingly appreciated in the automotive industry, as in addition to producing a better quality hose, it becomes a process that is repeatable and continuously controlled by an increasingly modern instrumentation.  From that moment on, the analysis and control of the process parameters have become an everyday reality.

2000

NEW SYSTEM

Colmec supplies complete solutions for the production of:

  • air conditioning hose
  • power steering hose
  • brake hose
  • fuel hose
  • hydraulic hose

Colmec develops specific solutions for production of coextruded products with duplex heads, triplex, quadruple and with also layers of thermoplastic material inside the rubber layers.

THE THIRD BUILDING

THE THIRD BUILDING

Over time, the headquarters in Vanzaghello had become too small to cope with the market’s demands that increased in number and as a type. Colmec was again been forced to seek a larger building and has returned to Busto Arsizio in Via Massari Marzoli, 6. The current structure presented in the photo, a modern and functional complex that occupies a total area of 40,000 square meters, of which 11,500 are covered (double the area of the prior facility in Vanzaghello).

2008

THE BIRTH OF THE COLMEC TECHNOLOGY CENTER

THE BIRTH OF THE COLMEC TECHNOLOGY CENTER

In 2008, the CTC (Colmec Technology Centre) was founded. It is housed in a of 3,000 square meters building, located in the immediate vicinity of the company’s headquarters. The CTC is modern and technologically advanced, dedicated to the research work of the company and the carrying out of tests by customers.

2011

COLMEC Arrives In The USA

In 2011, Colmec began its sales and service network in the U.S. market with its own headquarters in Trumbull, Connecticut.
